Purna Essentials

Our essentials classes are highly recommended for everyone, whether you are new to yoga or have been practicing for years. You will learn the basics on how to progress and build your practice to your level. You’ll be exposed to all the techniques you’ll need to ensure a safe and healthy practice for years to come.

Purna Restorative

A gentle style of hatha yoga. Focusing on long holds and attention to breath, a restorative practice restores balance to the body; experience a deep calmness to the nervous system.
A must for all yogis, beginner to advanced.

Purna Dynamic

For those who want to challenge themselves in a safe and nurturing environment. Combining traditional postures in a fluid vinyasa class, flowing with the breath to deliver a powerful, energetic practice and helping you build strength, flexibility and balance. Open to all yogis, beginner to advanced.

Freshwater Studio Teachers

 

Liz Dene, BHMS, is an international presenter with over 17 years experience, a master trainer for Network Pilates, teacher trainer for Byron Yoga and a senior presenter for the Australian Institute of Fitness.

She has worked with organisations such as the Australian Rugby Union ‘Wallabies’, ChiBall International, Byron Yoga and Australian Fitness Network. With a degree in human movement Liz is currently studying a Masters in Human Nutrition, She merges traditional fitness practices with a holistic approach to wellbeing.

Jenny Segail, started doing yoga 12 years ago as a solution to her lower back and neck issues. Using a combination of massage and yoga, she found that yoga helped to strengthen her body and dramatically improved her condition.

Her journey opened up a world that she never expected. She found that yoga calmed her mind and helped with the stress of daily life as well as fitting in with her Vegan lifestyle and spiritual beliefs.

She has studied with Judy Krupp, Fabio Fabbri, Christina Pateras and Lucy Andrews, as well as doing numerous intensive workshops. She was privileged to do a workshop with Donna Farhi and regularly visits John Ogilvie’s Studio in Byron Bay. She did her Teacher Training with Byron Yoga and loves sharing her knowledge with yoga students.

Min Carroll, trained with Byron Yoga Centre in 2010 achieving a level 2 certification before continuing with Byron Yoga Centre's graduate programme in Pondicherry, India and has also completed a course of Amrita Yoga in Amma's Ashram in Kerala, India in 2011.

Min has a special interest in yoga for children. Min teaches regular classes at Freshwater and Mona Vale and privately on the Northern Beaches.

Alison Dear, Alison is a qualified nutritionist, exercise physiologist, massage therapist and yoga teacher with 14 years experience in the Health and Fitness industry. She originally completed a degree in Exercise Science from Sydney University. Then, realising that this was only half the picture, went back to study and attained qualifications in Nutrition. Her passion for yoga and helping others realize their potential led her to train as a yoga teacher...which she loves every day!

Brita Fowler, has practiced yoga since 2003. A sea-change lead her to explore the exciting world of yoga. She has trained with Byron Bay Yoga Centre and has specialised in prenatal, postnatal and kids yoga training through Bliss Baby Yoga, Yoga to Go Kids and Rainbow Kids Yoga.
Brita teaches an integrated yoga style called Purna Yoga. These classes are highly recommended for everyone, whether you are new to yoga or have been practicing for years. You will learn the basics on how to progress and build your practice to your level. You’ll be exposed to all the techniques you’ll need to ensure a safe and healthy practice for years to come.
Brita has a special interest in yoga for women, especially in the period after birth, where a woman’s body and mind are often tired and in need of nurturing. The gentle practice of postnatal and Mums & Bubs yoga allows time for a woman to nurture herself while regaining tone, and control in her physical body.

 

Ana Arruzza, has been practicing yoga since 1999 and is a certified Hatha Yoga instructor through The Victoria Institute of Yoga Education and Teacher Training (VIYETT).

Ana has practiced varies styles of yoga throughout the years and likes to employ the traditional practices of Satyananda yoga, flowing Vinyasa and Hatha yoga to her practice, incorporating asana (postures), pranayama (breathing), relaxation/yoga nidra, creating awareness of the various parts of the body and mind.

Ana is the founder of Pittwater Yoga and has a home based yoga room with weekly classes. She also teaches Senior’s yoga at retirement villages and Dynamic yoga at the Manly SLSC.

Ana looks forward to sharing with you what she knows and to continue the journey of learning from each moment and experience.

Emma Hawthorne, was first introduced to yoga eight years ago when she began studying musical theatre at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts (NIDA). Emma used yoga as a tool for centring her body and mind before performances and helping to calm performance anxiety. Emma is now a seasoned performer in musical theatre, cabaret, film and television as well as a dance teacher at Sydney Dance Company. Recent credits include the Australian tour of Annie (GFO), Dr Zhivago (GFO), West Side Story (West Side Story Australasia), Fiddler on the Roof (TML Productions), Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical (Three Amigos Productions), Kiss Me Kate (The Production Company), Hats Off, and Godspell: Prepare Ye. Experiencing the benefits that yoga has on the mind and body, Emma completed her Level 1 Teacher training at Byron Yoga Centre in 2012 and is now committed to helping others on their journey of yoga. Emma believes in living a balanced life and maintaining health through the practice of yoga, balancing the mind, body, and soul.
 
Caroline’s path to teaching yoga developed through a vast array of experience, a mosaic of people and places which has fuelled a love for movement, connection and playful adventure. With 15 years of a personal yoga practice, Caroline moved from her corporate background to train and teach.

Caroline studied Purna Yoga at Byron Yoga Australia under John Ogilvie and continues to study with teachers such as Judy Krupp, Maria Kirsten, Leslie Kaminoff, and Eoin Finn. In addition to her yoga training, Caroline has completed her Advanced Studio Pilates course, and enjoys complimenting her yoga practice with pilates. During one of Caroline’shatha yoga classes, you can tap into a completely nourishing experience, whileshe invites you to explore your edge. Whether you are new to yoga, or have been practicing for ages, you are sure to enjoy her vibrant, energetic and inspiring classes all delivered with a touch of humour to keep you smiling.
