Teaching yoga consists of more than simply the skills required to perform asanas correctly or knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Ultimately, the path to teaching yoga with awareness and understanding involves deepening your own practice.

Byron Yoga Centre’s 6 month Teacher Training Course in Otford is a combined Level One and Two course fully accredited with Yoga Alliance and YTAA. It is designed to deliver holistic training that encompasses the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the yogic path.

All meals are provided and included in the cost. The Govinda Valley organic garden supplies the kitchen with a lot of the food used in its sattvic kitchen. Sattvic food is nutritious, light and nourishing and most conducive to spiritual pursuits.

Cooks meditate and bathe before entering the kitchen and all food is free of meat, fish, eggs, garlic, onion and mushrooms. Special dietary needs are easily and skillfully catered for.

Accommodation

All accommodation is included. The style is clean and simple, similar to yoga ashrams in India, usually two to a room. There are some simple guidelines to help create a Satvic environment, conducive to study and learning.

Trainees in residence are expected to be cigarette, drug and alcohol free and are asked to maintain silence (where practical) in the mornings before 9am and after 9.30pm. Generally to be mindful that the centre is a place of study and learning, that socialising can be done at the local café or beach. We also ask trainees in residence to be vegetarian on site.

The centre is a one hour train ride or drive south of Sydney.
