Byron Yoga Centre
Teacher Training Course – Byron Bay 16 February – 3 April 2009

Experience makes the difference
Teaching yoga consists of more than simply the skills required to perform asanas correctly or knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Ultimately, the path to teaching yoga with awareness and understanding involves deepening your own practice.

Byron Yoga Centre’s 7 week Teacher Training Course in Byron Bay is a combined Level One and Two course fully accredited with Yoga Alliance and YTAA. It is designed to deliver holistic training that encompasses the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the yogic path.

Training LocationByron Yoga Centre
Established in 1988 by John Ogilvie, Byron Yoga Centre is one of the longest running yoga schools in Australia. Located directly opposite Belongil Beach in Byron Bay.

Teachers
The lead teachers have over 20 years of knowledge and expertise each.

John Ogilvie founder and director of Byron Yoga, John has been teaching yoga for over twenty years. He encourages a light heartedness in our approach to yoga and to ourselves.

Other experienced teachers include:
Judy Krupp | Kara Goodsell | Stephan Kahlert | Davina Kruse | Bettina Kahlert | Michael Nazar | Alex Hamilton

Schedule
• Attend lectures between 12.30pm and 4.00pm, Monday to Friday.
• Attend regular early morning meditation, pranayama and asana classes with a focus on sequencing of postures (6–7.30am).
• Attend Workshops presented by guest speakers (times and days vary with each course, usually not weekends, 8.30 – 11.30am).
• Attend five specialised general yoga classes per week for seven weeks, with a focus on yoga sequencing, adjustments and corrections and use of props.
• Spend a minimum of one-and-a-half hours per day doing assignments such as practising and recording meditation and pranayama sessions, doing anatomy and physiology homework or answering questions on previous days’ subjects, etc.
• As part of the Level 2 course, trainees will teach morning classes at 6.00am and afternoon classes at 4.00pm.

Food
Lunch (healthy vegetarian) is provided Mon to Fri for a nominal extra charge.

Accommodation
We can now offer a limited amount of accommodation on site. The style is clean and simple, similar to yoga ashrams in India, usually two to a room. There are some simple guidelines to help create a Satvic environment, conducive to study and learning. The cost is $120 per week and doesn’t include meals, except in the Part-time Residential courses which include meals and accommodation. Trainees don't have to commit to staying there if they would prefer to change after their arrival.

The women’s cabin, which usually books out very quickly, has its own bathroom and kitchen.

Rooms attached to the main building have a simple shared kitchen, but require a short walk, about 50 metres outside, to get to the bathroom.

Trainees in residence are expected to be cigarette, drug and alcohol free and are asked to maintain silence (where practical) in the mornings before 9am and after 9.30pm. Generally to be mindful that the centre is a place of study and learning, that socialising can be done at the local café or beach. We also ask trainees in residence to be vegetarian on site.

Upon request I can send some other accommodation ideas.

Our centre is virtually across the road from the beach and a ten minute walk to town.

Generally, we recommend, if you are happy with the above conditions, that trainees do stay on site to get the most from the course.
