Byron Yoga Centre Teacher Training

Well-known for its culture and diversity, Byron Bay makes an ideal location for exploring and deepening your yoga practice, and gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to teach yoga with awareness and understanding.

Yoga Teacher Training Groupt Shot

Byron Yoga Centre is Australia’s first Yoga Alliance-accredited teacher training provider with recognition at 200- and 500-hour levels. The Centre’s Yoga Alliance accreditation offers graduates an internationally recognised qualification (over 80% of our students are from overseas countries), and guarantees training that exceeds the Yoga Alliance registration requirements.

Byron Yoga Centre’s teacher training programs are designed to be affordable and flexible. The Centre offers residential or non-residential, full-time or part-time courses (200- and 500-hour levels) through our studios in Byron Bay or our growing list of associated studios throughout Australia and internationally.

Experience makes the difference
Byron Yoga Centre’s focus on experience sets us apart from other yoga teacher training schools, and gives students and graduates ‘real-life’ teaching opportunities.

As part of the teacher training program students are required to conduct beginner’s level ‘community classes’ under the supervision of fully qualified instructors. In true yogic spirit, the profits from these classes are donated to charity.

Unique also to our course is that trainees receive their first experience of teaching the public by the end of the second week and, by the end of the course, have been involved in teaching at least 12 hours of open public classes.

Committed students are also invited to assist with the senior teachers classes from time to time. This offers valuable exposure to teaching methodologies including adjustments, corrections and the use of yoga props, and important insights into how students might conduct their own classes.

High Teacher/Student Ratio
Most importantly, class sizes are kept to an average of 18 students with at least two teachers and five senior assistants in class at all times, and a maximum of 20 students.

Accreditation
On successfully completing all units in Level 1 or 2, participants are issued with a Certificate of Attainment from the Byron Bay Yoga Centre. The Level 1 course is registered with the Yoga Alliance 200-hour Accreditation. The Level 2 course is registered with the Yoga Alliance Senior 500-hour Accreditation and the Australian Yoga Teacher’s Association. Level 3 is now also offered.

Ongoing Professional Development Support
Byron Yoga Centre is committed to the ongoing professional development of its staff and student teachers. The Centre aims to keep in contact with past graduates via regular newsletters, teaching manual updates, annual workshops, and by offering ongoing practical teaching experience. Byron Yoga Centre also organises annual retreats exclusively for teacher training graduates.
