25 Hour Training Course

The Prenatal Training Course (also touching on postnatal) is for teachers who wish to welcome pregnant women to their general classes and also for pregnant yoga practitioners. (Please note: this training does not accredit you to teach prenatal yoga classes, you would need to complete a 85 Hour Pre and Postnatal Training certified by Yoga Alliance.)

Byron Yoga Centre’s Prenatal Yoga Module will show you how to modify poses to teach safe and beneficial asana to pregnant women. Ideal for yoga teachers and also open to yoga practitioners with at least 2 years experience and pregnant women at 14 weeks gestation or more.

Modular Trainings

Byron Yoga Centre’s 50 and 25 hour Modular Trainings are designed to be stand alone specialty courses as well as being applicable to part of your 200 or 300 certificates. They fit particularly well as part of a Level 2 300 hour course. To be counted as part of a Level 1 or Level 2 the modular course must be undertaken after the residential intensive not before. These modular course hours can also be used for the ongoing professional development required each year by Yoga Alliance and other professional bodies. Or you could just do one because you want to learn more.

Course Overview

Delve into the fascinating and rewarding area of prenatal yoga and learn the basics of postnatal yoga. Explore the theoretical and practical aspects to allow you to confidently include expecting mothers into your yoga classes or continue practicing yoga through your own pregnancy. Qualified yoga teachers will gain a certificate of attendance for CPD (Continuing Professional Development) hours. This training does not accredit you to teach prenatal yoga classes.

You will learn from experienced trainers and specialists in the fields of pre and postnatal yoga. You will learn how to provide variations and modifications for pregnant women during general classes and be guided in safe adjustments and corrections. The course will also cover key asana to benefit prenatal women and the correct use of props.

The theoretical sessions will cover applied anatomy and physiology specific to pre and postnatal women. In the practical sessions you will participate in yoga classes that demonstrate correct teaching methodology and cues for teaching pregnant women and so through experiential learning you will gain knowledge and skills.

(Please note to become registered with Yoga Alliance as an accredited RPYT Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher you will need to attend a registered 85 Hour Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training).

Course Content

  • Take part in sample prenatal yoga classes
  • Safety guidelines for pregnant yoga students
  • Learn to modify key poses for prenatal students
  • Explore safe corrections and adjustments for pregnancy
  • Gain experience in the use of props for pregnant women
  • Study the applied anatomy and physiology of the field
  • Studying common physical symptoms that arise during pregnancy
  • Look at how to modify appropriately for these conditions
  • Learn basics for including postnatal students in your classes
  • Group work and practical exercises to integrate your learning

Certificate of Attainment

You will receive a certificate of completion and this can be counted as 25 hours towards any Level 1 or Level 2 where you have already participated in the residential intensive.

This 25 hour training can be counted as your CPD (Continuous Professional Development) as required by Yoga Alliance (YACEP) and Yoga Australia.

Note: There are no assessments or online requirements for this course (yay!).

The course will be facilitated by Senior Byron Yoga Centre teachers who have professional (and personal) skills and experience in pre and postnatal yoga.

Day 1:

2:00pm - Arrive and settle in to your accommodation
3:00pm - Welcome Circle
4:00pm - Restorative yoga class (example of pre natal poses)

7:00pm - Yoga Nidra

Day 2-3:

6:30am - Asana class with prenatal modifications
8:00am - Breakfast
9:00am - Theoretical and Methodology session
10:30am - Break
11:00am - Practical workshop
12:30pm - Lunch
2:00pm - Theoretical and Methodology session
4:00pm - Practical workshop
6:00pm - Dinner
7:00pm - Yoga Nidra / meditation / pranayama

Day 4:

6:30am - Asana class with prenatal modifications
8:00am - Breakfast, check out of rooms
9:00am - Final session and closing circle
11:00am - Departure (you are welcome to stay on to use the facilities and have lunch)
