Byron Yoga Centre’s Hobart Part Time 500 Hour (Level 1 and Level 2) Teacher Training Course is a combination of non-residential weekends in Hobart and two short intensives in Byron Bay to total the 500 hours. This 500 hour certification recognized by Yoga Alliance hours and eligibility to be recognized by Yoga Australia.

The Byron Yoga Centre 500 hour course was one of the first Australian Yoga Teacher Training courses accredited by Yoga Alliance as a 500 hour ERYT. This represents a very high qualification in yoga teaching that is recognised both in Australia and internationally, and you can be assured that by training with Byron Yoga Centre you’re in experienced hands.

Established in 1988 by John Ogilvie, Byron Yoga Centre is one of the longest running yoga schools in Australia. The lead teachers have over 20 years of knowledge and expertise.

Each of our lead teachers have many years of knowledge and expertise. Under the guidance of veteran yoga teachers John OgilvieKara Goodsell and Deborah Carwana the teaching staff on this course are experienced and dedicated. You’ll be inspired by our resident and guest yoga teachers alike, who ‘walk their talk’, living the yoga lifestyle, and are all knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects and about supporting you in your continuing yoga journey.

Level 1 200 hour Teacher Training Qualification

Byron Yoga Centre’s part time Teacher Training Course in Hobart / Byron Bay is a Level 1 200-hour Teacher Training course accredited with Yoga Alliance. It is designed to deliver our Purna Yoga holistic approach to training that encompasses not just learning about the asanas (postures) but also the many other aspects of yoga: pranayama (breathing practices), meditation, and yogic philosophy.

Conducted over several months, this training allows you to integrate your new yoga knowledge into your daily life in between the weekend non-residential training sessions.  You will have the benefit of the 6 day intensive to fully immerse yourself in the learning process and have the opportunity to teach public classes at Byron Yoga Retreat Centre. It’s an ideal flexible option for those with busy lives, and other family and/or work commitments.

Part A: Pre course prep

The preparation / study for the Part Time Level 1 Teacher Training Course can begin as soon as you have registered but should be at least 4 weeks before course commencement date. You will need to complete approx 30 hours of online and self study before the first weekend. This will include practicing with a DVD of the Purna Yoga sequence for Level 1, learning the sanskrit names of poses and completing some pre course reading.

Part B: Hobart Studio Sessions

Over the 3 weekends, practical and lecture sessions will include the following:

  • Asana Techniques and Alignment
  • Teaching Methodology and Language
  • Adjusting and correcting students
  • Modifications, use of props and variations of poses
  • Sequencing for classes and private students
  • Yoga Philosophy, focus on the 8 Limbs
  • Teaching Practice with feedback from senior teachers

Part C: Online and practical

Part C is undertaken in your own time and can be completed between the studio sessions at a personal pace. It comprises the maintaining of a personal journal of self-practice and of teaching experience plus some online study. If needed you can continue the study and complete the course after the residential intensive.

Part D: Residential, 6 days in Byron Bay

Part D is undertaken at Byron Yoga Retreat Centre. Accommodation is in shared cabins and all meals are provided, airfares are not included. If you have completed Part C, you will gain your 200 hour certificate on completion of the residential component. Those that need more time can continue their study afterwrads and will be sent the certificate once all hours are complete.

Over the 6 days, practical and lecture sessions will include the following:

  • Applied Anatomy and Physiology
  • Lifestyle & Ethics for Yoga Teachers
  • Meditation and pranayama practices
  • Teaching Practice with feedback from senior teachers

Level 2 300 hour Teacher Training Qualification

Byron Yoga Centre’s part time Teacher Training Course in Hobart / Byron Bay is a Level 2 300-hour Teacher Training course accredited with Yoga Alliance. The Training Course is designed to deliver our characteristic holistic approach to training that encompasses the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the yogic path.

Conducted over several months, this training allows you to integrate your new yoga knowledge into your daily life in between the weekend non-residential training sessions. You will also have the benefit of the 6 day intensive to fully immerse yourself in the learning process and to teach public classes at Byron Yoga Retreat Centre. It’s an ideal flexible option for those with busy lives, and other family and/or work commitments.

Part A: Pre course prep

The preparation / study for the Part Time Level 1 Teacher Training Course can begin as soon as you have registered but should be at least 4-8 weeks before course commencement date. Students are required to complete pre-course online study and preparation exercises.

Non-Byron Yoga Centre Level 1 Graduates must complete the Conversion Course, approx 40 hours, prior to embarking on Level 2 to get up to speed for the Byron Yoga Centre Level 2. This will include becoming familiar with the Purna Yoga style though our DVDs and online units. Skype sessions will be arranged with our trainers to support you in your learning.

Our Byron Yoga Centre Level 1 graduates can choose to undertake just 30 hours pre-course prep and then to complete the required 300 hours during the duration of the course or in their own time.

Part B: Hobart Studio Sessions
