This combination of non-residential weekends in Hobart and a short intensive in Byron Bay total the 300 hours for Level 2. This can be added to your existing Level 1 qualification to comprise the 500 hour certification recognized by Yoga Alliance hours and eligibility to be recognized by Yoga Australia.
The Byron Yoga Centre Level 2 course was one of the first Australian Yoga Teacher Training courses accredited by Yoga Alliance as a 500 hour ERYT. This represents a very high qualification in yoga teaching that is recognised both in Australia and internationally, and you can be assured that by training with Byron Yoga Centre you’re in experienced hands.
Please note that although this course is open to graduates of any accredited Level 1 (200 hour) course, non-Byron Yoga Centre Level 1 Graduates must complete the Conversion Course, approx 40 hours, prior to embarking on Level 2.

Byron Yoga Centre has partnered with the IXL Lounge to offer Part time Level 2 (and Level 1) trainings that are each run over 3 non-residential weekends in Hobart plus a 6 day residential intensive in Byron Bay at Byron Yoga Retreat Centre. The price includes all training sessions, training manual, accommodation and meals for your stay in Byron Bay (airfares not included).
This is an ideal way to spread your yoga teacher training between part time and intensive components. The training will also comprise of online elements and journaling of self-practice.
Students can begin the online study as soon as they have registered for the course. The weekends at IXL Lounge in Hobart start in August 2017 and will be led by Deborah Carwana with support from John Ogilvie, founder of Byron Yoga Centre.
To conclude the training in November students will spend 6 days at Byron Yoga Centre to benefit from sessions led by some of Australia’s most experienced yoga teachers. This is an opportunity to learn from and be mentored by highly trained yoga teachers and to teach public yoga classes.
Each of our lead teachers have many years of knowledge and expertise. Under the guidance of veteran yoga teachers John Ogilvie, Kara Goodsell and Deborah Carwana the teaching staff on this course are experienced and dedicated. You’ll be inspired by our resident and guest yoga teachers alike, who ‘walk their talk’, living the yoga lifestyle, and are all knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects and about supporting you in your continuing yoga journey.
Level 2 300 hour Teacher Training Qualification
Byron Yoga Centre’s part time Teacher Training Course in Hobart / Byron Bay is a Level 2 300-hour Teacher Training course accredited with Yoga Alliance and Fitness Australia approved for 15 CECs. The Training Course is designed to deliver our characteristic holistic approach to training that encompasses the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the yogic path.
Conducted over several months, this training allows you to integrate your new yoga knowledge into your daily life in between the weekend non-residential training sessions. You will also have the benefit of the 6 day intensive to fully immerse yourself in the learning process and to teach public classes at Byron Yoga Retreat Centre. It’s an ideal flexible option for those with busy lives, and other family and/or work commitments.
Part A: Pre course prep
The preparation / study for the Part Time Level 1 Teacher Training Course can begin as soon as you have registered but should be at least 4-8 weeks before course commencement date. Students are required to complete pre-course online study and preparation exercises.
Non-Byron Yoga Centre Level 1 Graduates must complete the Conversion Course, approx 40 hours, prior to embarking on Level 2 to get up to speed for the Byron Yoga Centre Level 2. This will include becoming familiar with the Purna Yoga style though our DVDs and online units. Skype sessions will be arranged with our trainers to support you in your learning.
Our Byron Yoga Centre Level 1 graduates can choose to undertake just 30 hours pre-course prep and then to complete the required 300 hours during the duration of the course or in their own time.
Part B: Hobart Studio Sessions
Over the 3 weekends, practical and lecture sessions will include the following:
- Asana Techniques and Alignment
- Teaching Methodology
- Sequencing, adjusting and use of props
- Yoga Philosophy / Lifestyle & Ethics for Yoga Teachers
- Practical teaching experience
Part C: Online and practical
Part C is undertaken in your own time and can be completed between the studio sessions at a personal pace. It comprises the maintaining of a personal journal of self-practice and of teaching experience plus some online study. If needed you can continue the study and complete the course after the residential intensive.
Part D: Residential, 6 days in Byron Bay
Part D is undertaken at Byron Yoga Retreat Centre. Accommodation is in shared cabins and all meals are provided, airfares are not included. If you have completed Part C, you will gain you 300 hour certificate on completion of the residential. Those that need more time can continue their study afterwards and will be sent the certificate once all hours are complete.
Over the 6 days, practical and lecture sessions will include the following:
- Applied Anatomy and Physiology
- Yoga Philosophy
- Meditation and pranayama teaching methods
- Teaching Practice with feedback from senior teachers
