Stories from the Heart

I am so grateful that I have had this amazing experience. BYC retreat is far more than I anticipated and I have learnt so much and have so many practical and doable practices that I will incorporate into my daily routine. Thank you from the bottom of my overflowing heart.

Maxine, NSW.

What a wonderful retreat. The first yoga retreat I’ve done and it far exceeded my expectations.

Colleen, NSW.

I love the authenticity of this place, especially the non pretentiousness. It’s the real deal, how yoga should be.

Sinem, NSW.

The ability to focus without ego and improve not only my posture/technique but mind and learn to slow down to appreciate what life has given.

Therese, NSW.

This is my third retreat to Byron Yoga Centre and I think the most enjoyable. It’s a wonderful opportunity to reflect, relax, and enjoy the practice of yoga. I’ll definitely be back! Thank you so much for having me.

Nicole, Qld.

I did the 5 day yoga retreat. Fantastic location, friendly staff and well organised. Very calming space with a lovely pool and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables grown on site. I also did the kayaking and loved it. Highly recommend.

Paula, Townsville

I did the 5 day yoga/wellness retreat. The experience was a perfect reset for me, the vegan/satvic meals were incredibly tasty and healthy. I particularly enjoyed the two massages and the environment was very relaxed and tranquil. As a novice the yoga classes were perfect for me, I engaged in 3 classes a day and loved the meditations in the evening. My friend who is an experienced and skilled yogi found the classes a little basic and the pace too slow for her. However, we both agreed that teachers Morgane and Vivienne were great, such beautiful authentic women. We enjoyed hanging out with the group and our impromptu bike rides in to Byron, visits to the farmers market, lighthouse and wattegos beach. The cost of this retreat seemed excellent value for money when you consider the classes, treatments and food etc!

Philip

What a beautiful place to come and reset. Delicious food, beautiful people and a very relaxed atmosphere.

Danielle G.

I got home last weekend from my 5 day retreat, and am still swanning about feeling wonderful. This was the reset I needed. I am happily back in the habit of a daily yoga practice. And my appetite has remained stabilised after what felt like a good cleanse, eating the delicious food provided for every meal.. my sugar addiction is back in the bin! All this on top of enjoying the most relaxing time on my retreat, walking to the light house to watch whales galore, sunshine and swimming in the magnesium pool everyday, evenings curled up with cups of tea and my book. This was my 3rd retreat at Byron Yoga Centre, and I will be back. Thank you to all of the wonderful people living and working on site, such a kind and welcoming bunch!

Jenna C.

Byron Yoga Centre is a beautiful community that is very grounded and authentic, with high quality facilities, a beautiful pool and gardens. The yoga sessions, meditation and treatments are fantastic, the healthy food is life changing.

Alison L.

I keep coming back to BYC again and again because it is such a beautiful holistic experience.

Sue G. - NSW

Your Body is where you belong. Don’t worry about where you think your happy place is because you are in it

Wade - NSW

Yoga retreat surpassed my expectations. We had the most lovely people in our group. Beautiful location. Will definitely return.

Kylie N.

Byron Yoga Centre is set in a tranquil environment. The programme is very at your own pace and incorporates a great mix of yoga sessions.

Sally

An incredible experience, would highly recommend. I love the low-key peaceful feeling of the place. The food, the grounds, the people, the yoga – all worth it.

Jane

The retreat was beautiful, the food is great and teachers are amazing. Thank you! Also the garden and sustainable living is such an important thing.

Meet your Hosts

Our experienced Byron Yoga Centre team is here to support your journey with warmth and integrity. With decades of experience and a genuine love for what we do, our teachers guide you with compassion and presence.

“We’re not here to fix you. You’re not broken. We’re simply here to hold space while you return to your wholeness.”

Elise is our Retreat Manager, where she has been both teaching and hosting our retreats since 2016.
She teaches a range of styles including vinyasa, yin, restorative and a powerful slow flow. All her classes have an emphasis on body awareness, alignment, nervous system regulation and the mind body connection. Her intention is to create a space where students can connect, grow and develop a deeper understanding of themselves.

Elise’s background in personal training and holistic wellness guided her own wellness journey, which led her to yoga in 2013. Since then, she has traveled to India to complete her 200-hour Level 1 training in Hatha and Ashtanga, followed by numerous additional trainings at Byron Yoga Centre. Elise has been teaching yoga since 2015 and has led hundreds of retreats. She loves connecting with guests and sharing her passion for yoga. Elise believes there is a form of yoga for everyone, and her goal is to help students discover their unique path.

Ross has a love for sharing the ancient wisdom teachings of Yoga and Mindfulness, teachings that have profoundly changed the course of his own life. His favourite thing is when others feel for themselves the healing, nourishing and transformative effects of these simple and time tested practices and principles. He is particularly passionate about helping to facilitate mental wellbeing.

Ross qualified as a yoga teacher in 2013 joining the Byron Yoga Centre team in 2016 where he continues to facilitate retreat groups to this day.

He has completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy with world renowned teacher and yoga therapist Dr N. Chandrasekaran, as well as trainings in various meditation techniques, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Trauma Aware Yoga, Zen Thai Shiatsu massage, and Reiki.

Ross loves swimming in the ocean, enjoying yoga, meditation, and good food… learning, teaching, playing, and walking…and enjoying time with his wife Mariana, their two sons Benji and Jesse, and their cat Shanti, in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, Australia.

Aurora is a Teacher Trainer and Retreat Host at Byron Yoga Centre since 2016. Also an Emotional Wellbeing Coach – Aurora is known for her calm and compassionate space holding. In her classes she interweaves slow flow Hatha, Restorative and Yin Yoga styles.

Aurora began practising yoga 20 years ago and spent most of her adult life in the UK as a Trainer, Coach and Event Organiser, and it was here that she became aware of the very real nature of burn out.

This led her to delve deeper into yoga and to study the womb and cycles by which the feminine energies are governed. She shares her personal Shakti journey as co-host with Tabata on our Women’s Retreats, and in her classes.

Aurora hopes to inspire her students to reconnect deeply with themselves, align and shine in their true essence, and make space for what’s truly important – on and off the mat.

Colin’s love of yoga was born in Edinburgh at the age of 21 with a rigorous Ashtanga practice. He has been involved in many styles over the years, across a number of countries, from Iyengar to Hot Yoga and most recently Vinyasa, Yin and Myofascial Release.

He began teaching by accident in 2019, completing his Level 1 course in Sydney and has been teaching weekly ever since. Furthering his experience through the Level 2 at Byron Yoga Centre in 2023, he then attended the Restore Training (Yin and Myofascial) with Lennox Yoga later that year.

With an emphasis on bringing together breath, alignment, presence, music and poetry, he endeavours to bring the full open hearted; depth of yoga to participants. With a sprinkling of occasionally good humour, his passion is to meet people wherever they are, regardless of age, sex, body type, injuries and capability.
