Course Overview
This course is for yoga teachers looking to expand their knowledge base and skills to make a positive impact on the lives of older adults. You will learn how to support seniors to stay mobile and have a positive outlook as they age, by adapting yoga techniques and practices to meet their needs.
Taught from an experiential platform, you will enjoy practical sessions to experience techniques and practices first-hand. These will be complemented by theoretical workshops to enrich your understanding of the challenges faced by seniors, informed by recent research.
This course will be facilitated by Byron Yoga Centre Senior Teachers. Led by Bec Isaacs and Marita Dortins.


Course Content
- Learn principles of anatomy and physiology relevant to older populations
- Learn about physical and mental health concerns common in older populations
- Be guided in how to adapt postures and utilise props for safety and accessibility
- Learn how to sequence classes effectively to achieve a range of outcomes
- Adapt your teaching style to meet the needs of seniors
- Explore strategies for injury prevention and providing appropriate adjustments
- Learn communication techniques to guide seniors through a rewarding practice
- Explore pranayama and meditation for seniors
- Understand how yoga philosophy can be integrated into the lives of older adults
- Time to relax by the pool and enjoy the retreat centre
Training Inclusions

About Byron Yoga Teacher Trainings
Byron Yoga Centre is one of the oldest Yoga Teacher Training Centres in Australia, with over 30 years experience, offering accredited yoga training in both the practice and philosophy of yoga.
Byron Yoga Centre’s 50 and 25 hour Specialty Trainings are designed to be stand alone courses as well as being applicable to part of your 200 or 300 certificates. They fit particularly well as part of a Level 2 300 hour course. To be counted as part of a Level 1 or Level 2 the modular course must be undertaken after the residential intensive not before. These modular course hours can also be used for the ongoing professional development required each year by Yoga Alliance and other professional bodies.
