Join us for a weekend of yoga, bushwalking, waterfall swimming, and mindfulness, surrounded by the natural beauty of Byron Bay and the Northern Rivers hinterland.

Into the Wild Retreat

A yoga and bushwalking retreat.

Into the Wild is a beautiful collaboration between everything you know and love about Byron Yoga Centre, and local bushwalking specialists Rise Up Byron Tours.

Across the weekend, you’ll move, breathe, explore and rest. Begin your mornings with yoga, take time to learn and reflect through wellbeing and yoga philosophy sessions, and enjoy nourishing vegetarian meals at Byron Yoga Centre.

Then, on Saturday afternoon, we’ll head into the Byron hinterland with Rise Up for a guided bushwalking experience, an optional invigorating waterfall swim, a mindfulness and sound journey in the bush and a nourishing vegan picnic dinner together.

It’s a chance to step away from the noise, spend time outside and reconnect with yourself, others and the natural world.

Discover the hidden sanctuaries of the Northern Rivers on this grounding afternoon eco-tour. Journey well off the beaten track to wander through lush, ancient rainforests and dive into crystalline waters for an invigorating swim beneath a spectacular waterfall. Paired with a calming guided mindfulness session, this experience invites you to fully unwind, recharge your senses, and connect deeply with the untouched natural beauty of the Byron Bay hinterland. Close the day with a delicious organic vegan picnic provided by Fundies Organics in the heart of the forest, designed to delight your senses with fresh, seasonal local flavors.

We recommend a moderate level of fitness for the bushwalking experience. The walk includes some uneven terrain and rocky surfaces, so a basic level of mobility is required. FAQs.

We recommend a moderate level of fitness for the bushwalking experience. The walk includes some uneven terrain and rocky surfaces, so a basic level of mobility is required.

Our experienced Rise Up guides are very comfortable supporting guests with minor mobility issues, and we have successfully hosted guests in their 80s on this experience.

There will also be an opportunity to swim during the experience, however swimming is completely optional. As long as you’re comfortable walking on uneven terrain and have a basic level of mobility, you should be able to enjoy the experience at your own pace.

Yes, there will be an opportunity to swim during the bushwalking experience, but swimming is completely optional. You can enjoy the walk, rainforest and other activities without getting in the water.

If you’d like to swim, we recommend wearing your swimwear and bringing a towel and change of clothes.

We recommend bringing:

  • Comfortable, supportive walking shoes
  • Wearing your swimwear (if you’d like to swim)
  • A towel (you can use one of our pool towels.)
  • Water bottle
  • Hat and sunscreen
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for walking
  • Insect repellent (we also supply this)
  • A light jacket or extra layer depending on the weather

You may also want to bring a small dry bag or waterproof pouch for personal items.

We’re very weather resilient! The rainforest experience can still go ahead in light rain, and ponchos will be provided for everyone.

If the weather is more extreme, we have a beautiful backup experience at a private property, with plenty of undercover areas where you can stay dry while enjoying our picnic dinner.

Whatever the weather brings, the Rise Up team will make sure you still have a memorable experience.

Yes, absolutely. Please share your requirements when booking, and our kitchen team will happily accommodate them where possible.

Meet your Hosts

This retreat brings together the experienced team at Byron Yoga Centre and local bushwalking specialists Rise Up Byron Tours.

Our Byron Yoga Centre teachers will guide you through yoga, meditation, wellbeing and yoga philosophy, with warmth, compassion and decades of experience.

The Rise Up team will take you into the Byron hinterland, sharing their local knowledge and helping you connect with the landscape through walking, mindfulness and time in nature.

Together, we’ve created a weekend to move, explore, slow down and reconnect – with yourself, each other and the natural world.

Cristiano is the founder of Rise Up – Byron Conscious Tours and a deeply rooted local of the Byron Shire. Having travelled the world extensively, he ultimately chose to make the unique landscape of Byron Bay his permanent home. Holding a degree in Tourism and backed by nearly 15 years of living and raising his family in the local rainforest, Cristiano brings an authentic, eco-conscious perspective to his partnership with Byron Yoga Centre. His mission is to guide guests beyond the standard tourist tracks to experience the profound, restorative magic of the hinterland, transforming a simple day out into a heartfelt invitation to reconnect with nature and oneself.

Ross has a love for sharing the ancient wisdom teachings of Yoga and Mindfulness, teachings that have profoundly changed the course of his own life. His favourite thing is when others feel for themselves the healing, nourishing and transformative effects of these simple and time tested practices and principles. He is particularly passionate about helping to facilitate mental wellbeing.

Ross qualified as a yoga teacher in 2013 joining the Byron Yoga Centre team in 2016 where he continues to facilitate retreat groups to this day.

He has completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy with world renowned teacher and yoga therapist Dr N. Chandrasekaran, as well as trainings in various meditation techniques, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Trauma Aware Yoga, Zen Thai Shiatsu massage, and Reiki.

Ross loves swimming in the ocean, enjoying yoga, meditation, and good food… learning, teaching, playing, and walking…and enjoying time with his wife Mariana, their two sons Benji and Jesse, and their cat Shanti, in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, Australia.

Aurora is a Teacher Trainer and Retreat Host at Byron Yoga Centre since 2016. Also an Emotional Wellbeing Coach – Aurora is known for her calm and compassionate space holding. In her classes she interweaves slow flow Hatha, Restorative and Yin Yoga styles.

Aurora began practising yoga 20 years ago and spent most of her adult life in the UK as a Trainer, Coach and Event Organiser, and it was here that she became aware of the very real nature of burn out.

This led her to delve deeper into yoga and to study the womb and cycles by which the feminine energies are governed. She shares her personal Shakti journey as co-host with Tabata on our Women’s Retreats, and in her classes.

Aurora hopes to inspire her students to reconnect deeply with themselves, align and shine in their true essence, and make space for what’s truly important – on and off the mat.
