New Year Retreat Overview

Each day of the New Year Renew and Revive Retreat is carefully designed to nurture your body, calm your mind, while still leaving space to simply be. Here’s what a typical day might look like:

Morning
Wake up to the sounds of nature and ease into your day with a grounding yoga class, suitable for all levels. After your morning movement, enjoy a nourishing, organic vegetarian breakfast, made with seasonal produce grown right here in our garden.

Follow breakfast with an inspiring wellness session—these include everything from yogic philosophy and guided meditation, to cooking classes, nutrition education, and workshops on postural alignment and the principles of Ayurveda, the ancient science of holistic health.

On January 1st, we’ll welcome the new year with a peaceful sunrise walk to the Byron Bay Lighthouse—the most easterly point on the Australian mainland.
It’s a magical way to greet the first light of the year, surrounded by nature, community, and intention.

Midday
After your delicious, vegetarian lunch, the afternoon is yours.
Spend it your way—relax by the pool, take a short walk to the beach, or simply rest in the peaceful gardens.

You might also choose to add an optional extra such as a Sauna session, surfing lesson, a kayaking adventure to meet the local dolphins, or a trip to the magical Crystal Castle in the hinterland.

Included in your retreat package are two personal massage treatments—a much-loved highlight. You may enjoy one during this free time, allowing yourself to fully unwind and receive.

Evening
As the sun softens, gather again for a gentle afternoon yoga or restorative practice. Then it’s time for a wholesome dinner shared with like-minded guests.

Evenings may include a relaxing wellness session, reflective journaling, or simply quiet time under the stars.

Special New Year ceremonies and rituals will be woven throughout the week, offering you the space to let go of what no longer serves you and set heartfelt intentions for the year ahead.

Meet your Hosts

Our experienced Byron Yoga Centre team is here to support your journey with warmth and integrity. With decades of experience and a genuine love for what we do, our teachers guide you with compassion and presence.

“We’re not here to fix you. You’re not broken. We’re simply here to hold space while you return to your wholeness.”

Elise is our Retreat Manager, where she has been both teaching and hosting our retreats since 2016.
She teaches a range of styles including vinyasa, yin, restorative and a powerful slow flow. All her classes have an emphasis on body awareness, alignment, nervous system regulation and the mind body connection. Her intention is to create a space where students can connect, grow and develop a deeper understanding of themselves.

Elise’s background in personal training and holistic wellness guided her own wellness journey, which led her to yoga in 2013. Since then, she has traveled to India to complete her 200-hour Level 1 training in Hatha and Ashtanga, followed by numerous additional trainings at Byron Yoga Centre. Elise has been teaching yoga since 2015 and has led hundreds of retreats. She loves connecting with guests and sharing her passion for yoga. Elise believes there is a form of yoga for everyone, and her goal is to help students discover their unique path.

Ross has a love for sharing the ancient wisdom teachings of Yoga and Mindfulness, teachings that have profoundly changed the course of his own life. His favourite thing is when others feel for themselves the healing, nourishing and transformative effects of these simple and time tested practices and principles. He is particularly passionate about helping to facilitate mental wellbeing.

Ross qualified as a yoga teacher in 2013 joining the Byron Yoga Centre team in 2016 where he continues to facilitate retreat groups to this day.

He has completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy with world renowned teacher and yoga therapist Dr N. Chandrasekaran, as well as trainings in various meditation techniques, Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Trauma Aware Yoga, Zen Thai Shiatsu massage, and Reiki.

Ross loves swimming in the ocean, enjoying yoga, meditation, and good food… learning, teaching, playing, and walking…and enjoying time with his wife Mariana, their two sons Benji and Jesse, and their cat Shanti, in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, Australia.

Aurora is a Teacher Trainer and Retreat Host at Byron Yoga Centre since 2016. Also an Emotional Wellbeing Coach – Aurora is known for her calm and compassionate space holding. In her classes she interweaves slow flow Hatha, Restorative and Yin Yoga styles.

Aurora began practising yoga 20 years ago and spent most of her adult life in the UK as a Trainer, Coach and Event Organiser, and it was here that she became aware of the very real nature of burn out.

This led her to delve deeper into yoga and to study the womb and cycles by which the feminine energies are governed. She shares her personal Shakti journey as co-host with Tabata on our Women’s Retreats, and in her classes.

Aurora hopes to inspire her students to reconnect deeply with themselves, align and shine in their true essence, and make space for what’s truly important – on and off the mat.

Colin’s love of yoga was born in Edinburgh at the age of 21 with a rigorous Ashtanga practice. He has been involved in many styles over the years, across a number of countries, from Iyengar to Hot Yoga and most recently Vinyasa, Yin and Myofascial Release.

He began teaching by accident in 2019, completing his Level 1 course in Sydney and has been teaching weekly ever since. Furthering his experience through the Level 2 at Byron Yoga Centre in 2023, he then attended the Restore Training (Yin and Myofascial) with Lennox Yoga later that year.

With an emphasis on bringing together breath, alignment, presence, music and poetry, he endeavours to bring the full open hearted; depth of yoga to participants. With a sprinkling of occasionally good humour, his passion is to meet people wherever they are, regardless of age, sex, body type, injuries and capability.

The yoga is a system we call Purna, a traditional hatha style with an emphasis on correct alignment and intelligent sequencing. Purna translates as complete or whole and this is reflected in the premise that we teach not just the physical postures but also an integrated approach with breath awareness (pranayama), meditation and philosophy. With the Purna system students can work at their own level, options are given for variations and modifications allowing for beginners to practice alongside experienced students.
