Health Retreats in NSW – How to prepare for a retreat

Looking to take time out but aren’t sure what to do or where to begin? Perhaps it’s time for a health retreat. Byron Yoga Centre is the ideal destination for a yoga health retreat in NSW. Located on the Northern Rivers of NSW Australia, is a stones throw from Ballina / Byron gateway airport (30 min drive) and Coolangatta /Gold Coast airport (50 min drive) making it easy to get to from most Australian capital cities.

Once you have made the decision to attend a health retreat, it is a good idea to start preparing in a few small ways so that you can get the most out of the experience. In the weeks leading up to your health retreat, and especially the few days before, it’s a good idea to reduce on the amount of caffeine, alcohol, processed foods, salt and sugar in your diet. You may also choose to cut out dairy, gluten, meat and generally eat ‘clean’. Increasing the amount of water you drink throughout the day will also help get the cleansing process underway in the lead up to your retreat. Byron Yoga Centre has yoga DVD’s available for all levels and these can be a great way to familiarise yourself with some of the yoga postures you will experience during health retreat yoga classes.

When getting your packing underway there are a few essentials we highly recommend that can really enhance your time. Having a journal to write in is a great way to document feelings or dreams that come up whilst on retreat, this can help to reflect on patterns and thoughts that arise in your life which is a great step toward change. A good book is a must and a nice essential oil like lavender can aid in restful sleep. Other essentials like sunscreen, swimming costume, towel, shawl or sarong and of course comfy yoga clothes are a must.
